Why teak lasts outdoors
Grade-A plantation teak is rich in natural oils that repel water and insects. Left untreated it weathers to a soft silver; oiled once a year it stays honey-gold. Either way, it will not rot or crack.
Rattan, cane and cushions
Synthetic rattan woven over aluminium is light, rust-proof and ideal for coastal homes. Natural cane is best on covered verandas. Choose quick-dry foam and solution-dyed fabric so cushions recover quickly after rain.
Caring through the monsoon
Store cushions indoors during heavy rain, rinse salt from frames near the sea and use breathable covers rather than plastic sheets that trap moisture.
