Allow at least 60 cm on both sides of the bed and 90 cm at the foot. A solid-wood frame with a slatted base lets the mattress breathe, which matters in humid cities, and needs no box spring. Look for mortise-and-tenon joints rather than metal brackets — they stay silent for decades.
Storage that stays out of sight
A tall wardrobe with adjustable shelves and a chest of drawers with dovetailed drawers keeps clutter away from the bed. Cedar-lined drawers naturally deter moths and keep linen fresh.
Finishing touches
Matching bedside tables create balance; mismatched ones feel collected. Either way, keep them at mattress height and add a warm, dimmable lamp for reading.
